Lee
Carpenter moved into Bridgeport Township as a child in 1957. After graduating
from Bridgeport High School, he started working at Grey Iron Foundry.
Lee married his wife Nancy in 1972 and moved to Frankenmuth, but after
a year they moved back to be closer to family and friends and have lived
here since.
In 1983, after so many layoffs from GM, Lee bought a local cabinet company
and moved it to Dixie Hwy. In operating the business he got involved with
helping start the Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce in 1985 and ended up
holding the President’s position for two, two year terms.
The Chamber experience got Lee involved with the township government and
in 1988 won the election as a Township Trustee. In 1990 he was appointed
to the Clerk’s position when the previous clerk, who held the position
for 27 years, decided to retire. Lee held that position until 2000 after
losing re-election.
Lee has been very active with the Bridgeport-Spaulding School system spending
time serving as President of the Athletic Association and continues to
serve as vice president of the Bridgeport Spaulding Scholarship Commission
along with helping out with maintaining the athletic fields at the school.
Lee sold the cabinet shop in 1997 but still owns and operates Carpenter’s
Snowplowing, now in their 20th year and also owns and operates Dream Fields,
an athletic field construction company. He also is a licensed builder
and has served on the Saginaw County Building Authority for 16 years.
He is currently the treasurer of the Great Lakes Web Professionals based
here in Saginaw.
Lee and his wife spend time helping their son build his graphic and design
business and their daughter get thru nursing school. They also have two
grandchildren and try to spend as much time with them as they can.
