Richard Dunnill graduated from Western Michigan University with a B.S. in Food Distribution and a minor in Business in December of 1970. Following college graduation Richard spent over six years in the United States Air Force serving all over the United States, the Philippine Islands and at the Pentagon before moving his family to Bridgeport Charter Township in July of 1977 to manage the brand new Weber’s IGA Store (now Kroger).
In April of 1980 Richard left the Weber’s organization and joined Procter & Gamble Distributing Company. For the next twenty years Richard moved through P & G’s organization assuming new and more challenging opportunities as a salesman, sales manager and account manager retiring in October of 2000.
After a few months of travel, catching up on home projects, helping a friend build a new home and working with another friend as he started a new business venture, Richard applied for and was hired as the Bridgeport Charter Township Manager in June of 2001. Over the past five and one-half years Richard has worked closely with Township Board Members to reduce spending, develop new labor agreements with Township Employees, expand the Township’ sewer system, aggressively seek out growth and development opportunities and improve service to the residents of Bridgeport Charter Township.
Richard has been very active in community activities including President of the High School Athletic Association and School Board, and member of the Township Park and Recreation Commission, local School District’s National Honor Society Program, Scholarship Commission, and DECA Program. During the late 1970’s Richard worked with local business leaders as they explored the pros and cons of starting a local Chamber of Commerce. The Bridgeport Chamber finally was opened in 1985 after many years of discussion and hard work.
In addition to his local involvement, Richard spent over fifteen years serving the Frankenmuth Police Department as a Reserve Police Officer. Richard assumed many duties in the Department from patrol officer to training officer. In addition to his training responsibilities, Richard was promoted from officer to various command levels, serving as the Departments Captain before retiring in 1993.
Richard is currently a member of the Saginaw County Brownfield Authority, a graduate of Saginaw Counties Vision Twenty - Twenty leadership program, a member of the Saginaw Metropolitan Area Traffic Planning Commission, President of Maier and Associate Advisory Council, the Counties River Front Corridor Commission and the Great Lakes Discovery Center Board of Directors.
Richard and his wife Peggy are the proud parents of three children Holly a Dow Chemical Engineer, Joshua a Samsung Sales Account Manager, and Joseph an Inventory Control Coordinator and Stone Cutter at Dixie Cut Stone. All three children are married with Holly and family living in Saginaw Township, Joshua and expectant wife Courtney living in Chicago and Joseph and family living in Bridgeport. The Dunnill’s enjoy spending as much time as possible with their six (soon to be seven) grand children.
