Saginaw County Mosquito Abatement Commission (SCMAC) has tentatively scheduled its Spring Aerial Larval Control Program for mosquitoes breeding in seasonally flooded woodlots, to begin the week of April 8, 2024. Weather conditions always play a factor in determining when our aerial treatment will commence, which means the program may start earlier or later than the projected start date.
This program involves an aerial contractor, Al’s Aerial Spraying from Ovid, Michigan. This contractor has multiple fixed wing aircraft that will be conducting low level aerial application (25 to 50 feet above treetops) over large areas of Saginaw County. Enclosed is a map of your township/village indicating the woodlots to be treated (pattern-green) and those that will not (pattern-red). Also for your information is a copy of the Bti treatment product, Vectobac G. We would appreciate you keeping this material available for ready reference. 2024 Program Updates
To stay current with our services, products, operations, and any precautions please refer to our website, saginawmosquito.com. During the season, we update our website daily regarding control activities and mosquito-borne disease threats. The public can also find our Annual Report (a summary of last season) and Program/Community Outreach Plan (outline of services for the current season), respectively. We can also be found on social media and have a new Saginaw Mosquito Notifications App which can be downloaded to mobile devices through the App Store for iOS or Google Play for Android.
Public Notice Posting – PLEASE DISPLAY
To communicate more effectively with the public regarding our purpose, products, and timeframe of our program, we kindly request you post the enclosed Public Notice on your Community Bulletin Board. This posting lets the public know that our control activities are taking place on public lands, like parks and other recreational areas.
It will also be posted at many of the community parks where routine mosquito control activities take place. Our staff will post this notice at a visible location near the entrance, preferably with other public information, e.g., billboard, signage, etc. Displaying these at community-use sites allows us to conduct a variety of treatment options throughout the season without using the small green and white placards used in the past.
If you identify a need to relocate the posting or it is missing at a site, such as a park, please contact us at (989) 755-5751. Without this notice, we may not be able to conduct the treatment at that community site.
Bti Distribution – SCMAC OFFICE ONLY
Bti distribution will take place at our facility beginning Tuesday, May 1, 2024, located at 211 Congress Ave. in Saginaw. As always, the inventory is limited and will be available while supplies last. Mosquito staff will confirm residents live in Saginaw County and determine how much product to distribute based on the size of parcel/water habitat. Residents may call our office at (989) 755-5751 if they have any questions.
Tire Collection – SCMAC Office/Tire Drives
Tire Collection will take place at our facility between Tuesday, May 1, 2024 - Friday, August 30, 2024, located at 211 Congress Ave. in Saginaw. Tires are accepted between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday – Friday. The office is closed on holidays. Residents may call our office at (989) 755-5751 if they have any questions. We will also be hosting three Saturday tires this summer from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.:
- May 18th – Rosati’s Fresh Market – Hemlock
- June 15th – St. Charles Elementary School
- July 20th – Taymouth Township Hall
If your township or village has a community clean-up day, SCMAC is willing to assist in collection efforts. Please contact our office to obtain more information.
