How will the funds be used?
How much will it cost?

One of the most important measures of a community’s quality of life is public safety. Bridgeport Charter Township is lucky to have well-trained, dedicated people in its police and fire departments. But as the Township has evolved, so has its needs. In order to continue to maintain these departments and meet response demands financial assistance is needed.

The issue of how to fund public safety to meet the needs of the community is not new. It has been discussed on and off for the better part of 15 years. It is back in the forefront again due to significant state revenue sharing cuts and decrease in property tax revenue. When these two revenue sources are reduced, the burden on the General Fund increases.

When revenue decreases to the level it has today, cuts must be made. As you will read later, we have made significant cuts. Further cuts will equate to a decrease in services. We believe the people of Bridgeport Charter Township deserve the very best municipal services, and that cutting parks & recreation, code enforcement, refuse collection and other services is not an option.

Therefore, the Township Board of Trustees has decided to place a millage question on the December ballot in the amount of 2.5 mils for the specific use of funding public safety. This decision was arrived at after much discussion and input from residents during 2009 public forums and Township Board meetings.

We encourage you to provide feedback on any Township topic that concerns you. This website is one way that you can provide your feedback. Additional opportunities to provide feedback and ask questions are in the works. We will schedule public forums to begin in October. We will hold the forums at various locations throughout the community. A mailing will be sent announcing the forum schedule.
